Jaipur is known as the Pink City because of the stones used in the construction of most of the buildings. As a result, the city actually looks pink to the human eye (as can be seen in the picture above). However, there are other reasons the capital of Rajasthan has become such an extensive tourist hub. Did you know, in the 2008 Conde Nast Traveller Readers Choice Survey, Jaipur was chosen as the 7th best place to visit in Asia.
A lot of credit for Jaipur`s fame goes to the historical culture still present in the city. Among the busy streets India is known for, Jaipur has also preserved the centuries majestic forts known as hawelis, and beautiful temples. Lots of tourists come to engage in these ancient and historical landmarks.
For other tourists who are not particularly interested in the historic aspect, the Jaipur bazaars are still quite an attraction. Due to Jaipur`s cultural rooted nature, shops and the items sold are very artistic in nature and different from anywhere else in India. The Pink City is definitely a city to keep on your list of travel destinations.
