Knee Arthroscopy

What is it?

Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure in which bone joint is visualized by passing a tiny camera through joint which is a size of pencil. It can be done under local anesthesia, spinal anesthesia or general anesthesia according to the need and length of surgery. Knee joint is made up of distal end of femur and proximal end of tibia. Three important structures in knee joint are anterior cruciate ligament, menisci and posterior cruciate ligament. There are two cruciate ligaments: medial and lateral. In knee arthroscopy your surgeon will decide after visualising the joint, whether you need surgical repair of your joint or not. If surgical repair is needed than through another incision instruments are passed to the repair site. Through one more incision irrigating instrument is also passed to better visualise the joint.

  • Trimming of damaged parts of articular cartilage
